So long, it’s been good to know ya

Well, folks, the red flag here is flying at half-mast today, after I learned about the sudden death of Tron Øgrim. TO was a Norwegian commie activist and theorist since back long before my time, as well as a journalist reporting on technology for many years. Outside of Norway, I think he was best known, as I had came to know him in the past few months, for his contributions to the Leftist Trainspotters list, which included huge deluges of compilations of news about the revolution in Nepal, but also touched on topics all over the world.

There’s a nice writeup over at Fire On the Mountain with some more about his life and contributions, including a photo from when he met the Big Dude. I never met TO or corresponded with him, so I can’t add anything to what’s written there. But his posts on the ’spotters lists were a major part of why that list is a great resource. There are not that many people who have been struggling and learning and struggling for the last forty years, and fewer still who will spend all the time they can to share what they’ve learned and pass it on. It’s a damn shame that there’s one fewer of them now.
