Well there is a page in history where the workers they fought back

Crazy day — I’m now getting ready for two conferences, instead of one, since WAIL just emailed to let me know that my alternate status has been upgraded to full conference presenter. So, yay! But also making travel plans for two trips this month, including auxiliary travel with both conferences to visit friends and family. And juggling money* because all the costs are upfront, and one hopefully gets reimbursed to some degree afterwards, if all the paperwork is filled out right. Gevalt. But yay for me for taking linguistics seriously for a little while, at least, I guess.

Anyway, since I’ve been too frazzled to write anything serious, here comes … wait, why do you assume it’s going to be lolcats? It isn’t always lolcats. As a matter of fact, today it’s random links! So there.

Conficker is awake! This very interesting internet worm has infected 12 million computers, and told them all to report to various websites on April Fool’s Day for further instructions. No one knows what they’re going to do. So far they’ve woken up in Australia and some other early parts of the globe, but haven’t taken any further action yet. We’ll see what happens.

Maia continues to deliver the goods on Dollhouse, Joss Whedon’s new show. Unfortunately, the internet has declared that it’s almost certain to be cancelled after this season, and in any case Lauren and I had to admit to each other that we wouldn’t be watching it right now if it weren’t a Joss Whedon show. But Maia always make appreciate what Dollhouse does get right and what it’s trying to say, and almost makes me sad that it won’t be renewed.

I’m intrigued by BookMooch. I’ve tried some other book exchange mechanisms — like BookCrossing (where you drop off or pick up books at random locations) and even one of those old-school chain letters (yeah, from before chain letters were electronic! Some of these are still circulating!). But those all turned out to be ways to trade crappy books you don’t want for an equal or larger quantity of other books that you don’t want. And there’s half.com and abebooks, which are great, but that’s buying books. Book Mooch seems like a way to trade books you don’t want for books you actually do want; overall it should result in an efficient non-market-based (well, mostly) allocation of books to interested owners. Anyway, I haven’t tried it yet, but I deem it: intriguing.

Ok, I think that’s all for today. If you only came here for the lolcats, sorry, but hey, there’s always tomorrow!

* Most impressive when done with coins, I imagine.

so far i’ve got 2 books as a result of that chain letter thing, one of which i may actually be interested to read. but it’s true, you tend to send something you don’t really want. I sent the thing i didn’t really want that weighed the less – sorry! :)

also, weird spam post above just quotes you. less amusing than last month’s spam about camcorders.

Yeah, I’ve also received two books so far. I’m not really expecting greatness even if I do get any more, but I guess at least they would be books I could put up for Book Mooch!

I removed the spam. I should know by now that I need to post at least a half hour or so before I turn off my computer. Those spam comments usually get added really soon, but it’s when I post and then go right to bed that they end up sitting there all night.

I totally failed to do the book chain letter thing again. I found it the other day and felt guilty. Maybe I could just send you a good book?

Definitely no need to feel guilty. But I would never say no to receiving a good book!
